Champagne Riot – Scandinavian Warfare

Last May I made a monumental error in judgment. The error in question is that I went to see Jens Lekman over Champagne Riot. Granted, I’ll give myself a little leeway since I had bought tickets in advance before Champagne Riot had announced their only Los Angeles show, but I still don’t know if I should be forgiven. I really like Jens, and I’ve always liked his live show, but I should have known that The Echo can spoil any show, even a great performer like Jens. The sound was INSANELY loud. So loud my eardrums hurt. So loud that people who had in earplugs were still covering their ears. Absolutely terrible and certainly not enjoyable. And the whole time I was sitting there suffering through the worst show I’ve seen him play to date (this was the second night of his 2 night stint) I was thinking that I could have been over in Hollywood seeing what could very well be my only opportunity to see Champagne Riot. As European bands have a tendency to not play the West Coast, here’s hoping there’s a next time!
