Fugazi – Blueprint (Live Video)
Here's an "In On The Kill Taker"-era clip that a friend of mine shot the first time Fugazi played in Iowa. It would be a full 2 years before I saw them play for the first time in South Dakota. (More...)
The Monday Set: Gus Gus – Roskilde – 6/27/97
One of the most memorable shows I attended in the '90s was Gus Gus at First Avenue in Minneapolis. On tour for their Polydistortion record, they put on a multimedia show which was on par with what you would see today which was unheard of at the time. (More...)
Unwound – Laugh Track (Live Video)
I missed my last opportunity to see Unwound when they played at All Tomorrow's Parties here in Los Angeles. I figured instead of seeing them play a huge venue/festival, I would catch them next time. Unfortunately there was never a "next time" as they broke up a few months later. (More)
TSOI On Vacation
Despite the best laid plans to have a week's worth of posts ready to go, time got away from me so you'll have to wait a week for your indie fix. In the meantime, hopefully the archives will tide you over. Don't worry about me, I'll be busy hanging with Drew Brees, Brett Favre and Quintron. (More...)
His Hero Is Gone – Chain Of Command (Live Video)
I wasn't properly introduced to Memphis' His Hero Is Gone until they put out their split 12" with Union Of Uranus back in '98. Their style of crust/metal never appealed to me as much as the Uranus side, but HHIG live was a whole other story (More...)
The Monday Set: Jonathan Fire*Eater – Cincinnati – 7/24/97
We had a request a couple months back to post this show for someone who had the great fortune of actually being in attendance. I saw them a couple of times on this same tour, once in Seattle at a bizarre club with the widest yet narrowest stage I have ever seen (More...)
Lush – Ladykillers (Live Video)
This is a Lush performance on a UK show called "Hotel Babylon". I wasn't able to find any info about the show, the only info that came up for "Hotel Babylon" was a BBC drama from 2004-2009. That would have been awesome if they wrote Lush into an episode. Maybe it wouldn't have gotten the can had they done that. (More...)
Vic Godard – Blackpool
Though I came late to the game when it comes to my appreciation of Vic Godard, I've had a great time tracking down a lot of his back catalog. With a musical style varying wildly from release to release, I've always found myself attracted to Vic's jazz standards-esque songs from the early 80's. (More...)
Post 1,000!
Crack open the Boones because this is The Sound of Indie's 1,000th post! Long before iPhones, and Androids, and Twitter, there was my simple idea for a daily mp3 blog that would feature rare music that I had collected over the years. (More...)
Aluminum Group – Love Action (I Believe In Love)
Yesterday was the legendary decision that California's Prop 8 ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional. People here in Los Angeles are celebrating it in different ways. Some are going to parades, some are eating vegetables longer than 2". I decided to do the most gay thing I could think of, listen to the entire Aluminum Group discography. (More...)
