HolyGhost!: Unknown Track (Live): CMJ 2010 Part 1/10
The faithful TSOI reader will have noted that there has been a recent outcropping of synth bands, Hot Chip, Cut Copy, La Roux, etc, and many others that are enjoying fairly wide-spread success. If CMJ 2010 is a harbringer of things to come, then we are in for a lot more of these sorts of keyboard centric configurations. (More...)
The Charlatans UK: Sproston Green (Live Video)
I couldn’t help but laugh this summer when I went to my childhood home and found a The Charlatans UK advert cut out of an early 90's SLUG (Salt Lake Underground) magazine of their classic press photo with 'CANCELED' stamped across it. Attempting to see The Charlatans UK has been a decade-long running joke (More...)
Bauhaus: Kick In The Eye (Live Video)
This 1981 Bauhaus clip may have been their television debut. It's truly unfortunate that the performance is mimed, but the band still does a good job of still looking interested. (More...)
The Monday Set: Generationals – Baton Rouge – 11/13/2010
New Orleans' own Generationals closed out a tour in support of their Trust EP at Chelsea's Cafe. Chelsea's has a warm spot in the hearts of those-in-the-know in Baton Rouge, and it is just starting to put on more indie shows again following a period of bizarre persecution by the state's Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (More...)
The Monday Set: Slant 6 – Athens – 8/3/93
I got this and another amazing live Slant 6 recording from Henry Owings and his never ending box(es) of amazing recordings. I had what must have been a multi-generation cassette version of this soundboard recording that I had traded for in the '90s, but this one comes directly from the master (More...)
Kisses: Bermuda (Live)
Los Angeles' Kisses released their debut LP "The Heart of the Nightlife" in the US yesterday. I'm hoping to pick it up in the vinyl format at one of their upcoming shows, but you can grab the entire thing from Amazon right now for the "Nice Price" of $5.99. (More...)
Guided by Voices: Motor Away (Live)
Guided by Voices are among the ever growing legions of recently reformed bands that seem to be springing from the cracked earth like frogs and serpents following an apocalyptic rain. What is interesting about GBV is that Robert Pollard reformed the Tobin Sprout incarnation (More...)
The Monday Set: Love And Rockets – Irvine – 12/6/87
I finally got a new cassette player that plays at the correct speed, so I'm back in the business of transferring my old cassettes to CD. Here's an extremely short Love And Rockets show from the "Earth, Sun, Moon" tour in 1987. (More...)
Swans: My Birth (Live)
I went to concerted lengths to catch the final Swans show in Atlanta in 1997 - the tour supporting The Great Annihilator. In 2010 Swans have reformed using an early lineup variant and touring behind a new album (More...)
Hoodoo Gurus – What’s My Scene (Live)
Hoodoo Gurus are a good-time rock pop band from Australia that feature great 90's era college rock vocals in Dave Faulkner. In the late 80's and early 90's they had a string of snappy, slightly quirky, psychedelic, accessible singles, such as "Come Anytime" and "Miss Freelove '69'" that lent themselves for constant rotation on college radio (More...)
